Toyota Vitz

1st Generation Toyota Vitz

2nd Generation Toyota Vitz

Hey, Good Day to all!

Today I have chosen a car which literally stormed the Pakistan market after the reduction in import taxes some years back. Before its introduction in Pakistan there was no hatchback providing such specifications.

Vitz or Yaris (as it is known in many other countries) is available in 3 door and 5 door hatchback version in Pakistan although Yaris sedan is available in other countries.I think Toyota Belta is same one way or the other.

Toyota produced 1st Generation of Vitz in 1999 upto 2004.In 2nd Generation(2005-Present)  Toyota facelifted and entirely redesigned the car. There are rumors that 3rd Generation of this car(2010-) will be based on Toyota iQ platform.

Comfort

For a small car, surprisingly good. You sit fairly tall and there’s a flat floor, so your legs and feet can fit easily, even if you’re in the back. Ride is firmish but controlled, and refinement not bad at all.

Quality

In photos the cabin looks terrific. The shapes are original, the colors lively and the digital instrument pack is a touch out of the ordinary. The reality is a little disappointment(atleast for me). The dash is a hard, hollow, scratchy piece, the glovebox lid is like the top of a Chinese takeaway, the heater knobs graunch. But the major controls are fine. And naturally, underlying reliability is sound.

Handling

The grip is moderate but you can have fun exploring it, thanks to direct steering and progressive reactions.

Performance

Vitz is available in 1.0L and 1.3L 3-cylinder(1st Generation is 4-Cylinder) VVTI engine in Pakistan(there are 1.5L and 1.8L versions in other countries). I think the car is too heavy for 1.0L engine. The 1.3 is well suited to the car.A bunch of Vitz vehicles have been modified to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) with minute decline in output.

Practicality

For a  small it’s useful. The rear seat reclines and slides. They then fold flat with an easy lever movement. There is enough space in the back.

Running Cost

Fuel economy is excellent on highways but moderate in city. Spare parts are some what expensive

Summary

Pros

  1. Highly comfortable
  2. Excelent performance
  3. Great Handling
  4. Quite Spacious

Cons

  1. Cabin quality not as good as depicted
  2. Expensive than the other hatchbacks
  3. Spare parts are quite expensive

Daihatsu Cuore

Ok the first review of the blog and i am so happy to start with the car which i drove for 4 years. Its small, its decent, its fun its “The Daihatsu Cuore”.

“Daihatsu Cuore” is known as “Daihatsu Mira” and “Domino” in other countries. Cuore present in Pakistan is

Daihatsu Cuore

4th generation Daihatsu Mira [1994-1997] But it is still in production only in Pakistan.

Comfort

Ride is reasonable in softy spring Cuore. It soaks up the bumps surprisingly well for a car with such a short wheelbase. But still u will feel that it afterall is a small car.

Quality

You can be confident the Cuore is well built and reliable and mechanically it is solid. But in the cabin use of cheap plastics makes you think for a while(well maybe). But in my opinion it is much better than those present in other hatchbacks.

Handling

The small wheelbase equal lot of body roll but surprisingly this car has good handling(keeping in mind of its small wheelbase, tiny tyres etc)

Performance

Available only in 847cc ED-10,OHC,3-Cylinder engine this car can beat all of its rivals like Alto, Mehran etc.Driving the M/T is more fun.It also comes with company fitted CNG. Performance on CNG is excellent.

Practicality

Not bad, so long as you’re not considering putting anything larger.

Running Cost

Cuore is highly fuel efficient with its 3-Cylinder engine.
